Character
I'm developing a slight obsession with Mary Sues (and how to avoid them), even more so since New Chloe below asked about them. In general, I'm rather curious what people come up with when they try litmus tests (I know I've already discussed these with some of you guys). I get rather contradictory results in relation to different tests. Anyway, independently from the tests, which are useful but being mechanical can only be of so much help, I was wondering if too haven't produced a Mary Sue (or at least tendencies in that direction).
People who've been here a while and follow my posts are going to know who she is. So, my character:
- is ultimately more sensible than the other protagonists, some of which end up doing things that are stupid and dangerous. This is the main thing really, along with the fact that some of her ideas get dismissed by others at first but turn out to be "right". For instance, she shows a strong dislike of Italian Fascism even in its early stages, where most people approved of it (though that's not by any means exceptional)
-is of mixed nationality/culture, but this is really tied to the fact that out of principle I always have at least one significant character who's at least part Italian (as me and the language I write in).
